Samhain is traditionally the time of year where the link between the living and the dead is at its weakest, meaning we can create a stronger connection with our loved ones who we have lost. There are lots of different traditions associated with Samhain and lots of interesting meaning behind a lot of the Halloween traditions, such as the reasons behind Jack-O-lanterns and dressing up in costumes.
- Dinner with the dead
- Candles
- Baking
- Fire rituals
As this is the time of year where the connection between the living and the dead is at its weakest it is the best time to try and connect with those you have lost. A lovely way of doing this is to cook a nice meal and set a place for someone you have lost, invite them to join you and done with them for the evening.
Candles can be used as a guide for spirits, bringing hope and peace to your home. Whilst you are dining with your ancestors light candles to guide them, make them feel welcome and feel their love and warmth surround you. Light candles around your home to guide the spirits, bring peace to your home and relax in the tranquil light from the flames.
As sweets being given out for Halloween is a tradition across the world baking sweet treats and sharing these with your family is a Wiccan tradition that brings you together with your loved ones and encourages positive wellbeing through the act of giving.
A fire ceremony must be treated with great caution and care, fire needs to be respected and treated gently. That being said a fire ceremony can be very beneficial to your wellbeing. You can either choose to write the things you are thankful for, reflect on them and throw them into the fire, spreading the positive affirmations out into the sky or you can write down the things you want to let go of, throw them into the fire and watch as they are released from you.
