Lammas, also known as Lughnassadh marks the beginning of the harvest season. Whilst traditionally it symbolised gratitude and celebration for the harvest the more modern day celebration can be tailored towards local farmers, celebrating their harvest and showing gratitude for all their hard work and effort that supports the country.
- Bake Bread
- Meditation
- Make corn dollies
- Letting go
With a lot of emphasis on harvest baking bread is an excellent way to honour the grains, such as wheat, by baking. Celebrate with a feast, invite around your friends and family and create those connections through food, love and laughter. Support local produce and local farming by shopping local and making things from scratch.
During Imbolc we put together some goals for the year and things we had to do to achieve them. Lammas is a good time, 6 months on, to review those goals goals, reflect on our year so far and express gratitude for the good things we have had in the year so far. It is so easy to focus on the bad things in life that we miss or forget about the good. Meditate a while and focus on the things that have brought happiness to you throughout the year. Often journaling throughout the year helps with this as you can look back and reflect on this.
Crafting, and finding new things to craft, can be an excellent way of relaxing. It is really beneficial to your wellbeing to continuously learn which is why trying something new like this can really improve your mental wellbeing. There are plenty of tutorials online so take a look and have fun with it.
Similar to how we have reflected and expressed gratitude for all the good things that have happened now is a good time to think about the things that aren’t working or the bad things that have happened and work on letting them go. Bad things happen in life, it’s inevitable, but it’s not a bad thing that they do. We need that balance and we need those things, however much they hurt, because it helps us see the good things more clearly and be more grateful for them. But we have to let them go otherwise they will eat away at you.
It doesn’t just have to be the mental Things you let go of. Have a clear out, get rid of the things that you no longer need or want and make space for the new. Donate to charity and freshen your home ready for the new seasons approaching.
